Beaumie Kim is a Professor of the Learning Sciences at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, Canada. She previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Education of the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and as a design researcher at the NASA-Sponsored Classroom of the Future at the Center for Educational Technologies in the US. Her current research is focused on engaging learners in playing and designing games that model ideas, concepts, and systems as well as express something about themselves, including their interest and culture. She investigates how learners’ bringing diverse interests and resources to the learning environments contributes to the individual and collective learning experiences. She carries out her research by collaborating with teachers and students as design partners, and observing their interactions and design processes.
