Ernest Porter is a soulful storyteller, inspired musician, and co-writer of the acclaimed stage play Man at a Crossroad. He is the author of the powerful new book Reflections of a Soul, a deeply personal work that invites readers to confront their truth, embrace healing, and rediscover their purpose.

A devoted husband to Lynda M. Porter and proud father of four, Ernest’s life is rooted in faith, family, and a fierce commitment to justice. For over a decade, he has studied the human condition through the lens of social and economic disenfranchisement, asking the hard questions and daring to seek answers that uplift rather than divide. His compassion has fueled a lifelong mission: to motivate others to rise above racism, reclaim their voice, and walk boldly in their truth.

Whether he’s playing basketball with his nephews and grandchildren or engaging in deep conversations with his sons about the state of the world, Ernest brings the same passion and presence to every space he enters. He transforms personal highs and lows into fuel for change, crafting a vivid vision of reality that champions self-love, mutual respect, and honest dialogue.

As president of the Louisa County chapter of ASALH (Association for the Study of African American Life and History), Ernest is a steward of cultural truth and historical preservation. His legacy of leadership began early, earning the prestigious “Woodsman of the World” award for American civics at just 16 years old.

Born in North Philadelphia and raised in North Carolina, Ernest has lived both the pain and promise of the American experience. He spent over 30 years in the nuclear power generation industry, rising from general laborer to supervisor and management. Along the way, he sharpened his leadership skills through training at Eastern Michigan University and the American Management Association in New York, with a focus on African American leadership development.

Today, Ernest Porter stands as a living testament to perseverance, purpose, and the power of storytelling. Through books, music, mentorship, and advocacy, he continues to inspire others to reflect, rise, and reclaim the narrative — one soul at a time.
