Amanda Anne Powell

Amanda is a multifaceted professional, blending her talents as a children's book author and illustrator with a deep commitment to enhancing the lives of older adults and individuals with disabilities. Originally hailing from Whiteville, NC, Amanda has cultivated her passions across diverse landscapes, calling both Wilmington, NC, and New York, NY, home.

With a rich educational background, Amanda holds an Associate of Fine Arts Degree in Music: Vocal Performance from Southeastern CC, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation Therapy, and a Master of Science Degree in Gerontology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Her academic journey led her to transformative clinical experiences at both Camp Anne, in the Catskill Mountains, where she worked with kids and adults with a wide range of disabilities and her clinical internship at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital in NYC, where she spearheaded the establishment of their inaugural outpatient music program tailored for patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries. Amanda has additionally served as a lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, delivering instruction in expressive and creative arts pertinent to the recreation therapy curriculum.

Beyond her scholarly pursuits, Amanda is a versatile artist, finding expression as a Singer/Songwriter and illustrator. Her love for musical theater and performance shines through her work, as does her passion for creating engaging narratives for children. Her books, "The Tale of Ada and Tommy the Tree" and "The Tale of the Wave Grandma and May," quickly ascended to #1 new releases in multiple children's book categories, a testament to her storytelling prowess and artistic vision.
