Rosemary Henrich

Dr. Rosemary Henrich's career as a Registered Nurse, then as a Family Nurse Practitioner, spanned five decades and included professional roles in five countries. When her husband's career took their family overseas, Dr. Henrich was able to work as a Nursing Instructor in Seoul, South Korea, an American Embassy Nurse in Nairobi, Kenya, and a School Nurse in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Her career as a nurse with the Department of Veterans' Affairs, marked the beginning of the expansion of her nursing education. She achieved a Master's Degree in Nursing, became a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and earned a Doctor's Degree in Nursing Practice.

Through the years, her nursing career and education have always focused on Clinical pathways. She spent the last 12 years of her career as a Primary Care Provider in the Home Based Primary Care Program at the Southern Nevada VA facility. This program is focused on caring for Veterans who, for the most part, are unable to leave their homes, or leaving their homes is a great hardship.

Throughout her varied experiences in Home Care, she developed a deep appreciation for the caregivers of these chronically ill, severely debilitated Veterans. These caregivers work tirelessly to meet the needs of this special population. These selfless individuals go unnoticed, at times unappreciated. Her book, “Stories of Silent Sacrifice: A Tribute to America's Informal Caregivers," is her attempt to remind us of their humanity, and their contribution to our nation’s healthcare system. Her hope, and that of the caregivers who participated in making this book possible, is that the reader will develop a better understanding and appreciation of the extent of the caregiver role, and their degree of sacrifice.
