Kanisha Louis

Kanisha Louis (left) hails from the capital city of New Providence in The Bahamas. Her early education was in Nassau at the Bahamas Academy of Seventh Day Adventists, where she was a member of her school’s math club. Her love for math developed at an early age, causing her to enjoy pursuing her education and maintaining her honor roll status. Ms. Louis is a graduate of the College of the Bahamas, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education with a secondary mathematics certification. She has taught in many schools throughout the Bahamas, including the islands of New Providence, Eleuthera, and Grand Bahama. During her tenure on Harbour Island (Eleuthera), Ms. Louis was a co-coordinator of the Math & Science Club. As a forward thinker and problem solver, Ms. Louis recognized the need to implement innovative strategies in the mathematics classroom to engage students of various aptitudes and decided it was time to join forces with her fellow teacher to provide the solution. Ms. Louis now serves as a Middle School teacher in Grand Bahama. She is an avid reader who is always up to a new challenge. In her free time, Ms. Louis enjoys puzzles and ciphers. She is the youngest of three children and the aunt of one nephew.

A native Grand Bahamian, local Middle School educator Ms. Arielle Major’s (right) journey began in the arts. Her parents were music teachers who influenced her creativity and inspired a passion for enacting positive change in whatever course she chose to pursue. As an honor student at Sunland Baptist Academy, Ms. Major participated in many school activities and clubs, such as the Key and Interact Clubs and the handbell choir. However, Ms. Major’s love for mathematics was not stirred until she attended the College of The Bahamas, where she was enrolled as a music education student. A year into her studies, she felt compelled to change her Bachelor’s degree from music to education with a secondary certification in mathematics. During this time at the then “COB,” Ms. Major continued to develop her leadership skills as a peer tutor and an active member of the Math Club. Being a problem solver and one passionate about helping students to excel, it was an easy decision for Ms. Major to join forces with her colleague to create a series of mathematic books that serve to equip in advancing a new breed of math students who are excited about learning. An avid reader who has maintained a love for music and the performing arts, Ms. Major enjoys traveling and staying connected with her family and friends.
