Paul M. Rogers

Paul Rogers is an Associate Professor of Writing Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he also earned his PhD in education (2008). Paul served as a member of the Stanford Study of Writing Research Team, as Senior Scholar for the George Mason University, Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, and as the Director of the Northern Virginia Writing Project. He is also the co-founder and immediate past chair of the International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research. As an Associate Professor at George Mason University, Paul helped launch the Mason Center for Social Entrepreneurship where he served as academic director, and developed an interdisciplinary masters degree in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship. For four years, Paul also worked as a strategic advisor to Ashoka: Innovators for the Public on their work in advancing the global vision of everyone a changemaker. Paul’s primary focus now is on transforming educational systems by through rigorous educational research and advancing data-informed policy and practice related to writing and literacy at all levels of education. Paul is a recipient of AAC&U’s K. Patricia Cross Award for leadership in higher education and NCTE’s Janet Emig Award for research in English education. He is the editor of eight co-edited volumes and numerous other journal articles and book chapters. His favorite activities are spending time with his wife Karyn and his family (the Seven Hearts Tribe), surfing, running, hiking, playing sports, and reading.
