Stuart Warner

Stuart Warner is the author or co-editor of three nonfiction books, but he is best known in Akron, Ohio, for writing a local column called Warner’s Corner and for his solos at TubaChristmas. At the Akron Beacon Journal, he also served in several editing positions, including associate managing editor. He was part of the teams that won Pulitzers for covering the attempted takeover of Goodyear and race relations in Akron, A Question of Color. As writing coach at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland he edited four Pulitzer finalists, including Connie Schultz’s columns that won the Pulitzer for commentary. As a senior editor in Phoenix, he led projects that won 11 Best of the West award and won the George Polk award for immigration coverage, exposing the practice of Motel 6 giving information on its guests to ICE, which was using it to deport more than 20 immigrants. The reporting led to Motel 6 being forced to pay almost $20 million in reparations to its guests. Warner has been inducted into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. He is past president of the Press Club of Cleveland.
