Fred Litt is a longtime Allendale resident, business owner, and community volunteer who has been involved in researching his family history and community history for over 30 years. Educated in information technology and digital document solutions, he brings these skills to his efforts to preserve and share Allendale’s history. His experience as a member of the Allendale Borough Council and the Allendale Planning Board and as president of the Allendale Chamber of Commerce allows him to bring a unique insight to his storytelling. Several years ago, Fred began researching his adopted hometown of Allendale, New Jersey, creating a digital library of over 50,000 individual documents, photos, postcards, maps, deeds, and much more. To share this invaluable community collection, he created a Facebook page, Allendale Artworks and Artifacts (https://www.facebook.com/AllendaleArtworksAndArtifacts/), where he regularly posts items from this collection. On July 5, 2021, Fred published his first print book, Images of America: Allendale. The book contains 128 pages, 190 images, and 25,000 words about the history of the borough of Allendale, New Jersey. On October 27, 2022, Allendale's mayor and council appointed Fred as the borough's first official active Borough Historian.
