Tamara Thompson LMFT

Tamara Thompson is a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice in New York City where she sees clients, holds workshops, paints, and writes a blog. Tamara is passionate about supporting individuals with healing, self-actualization, and living their purpose. She recognizes that when it comes to people, our perfection is our authenticity. Recognizing that in life change is inevitable, she supports others with accessing their resilience during challenging times.

Tamara has been working with couples and families of diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic groups for over a decade in NYC and Westchester County. She has worked as a therapist, clinical supervisor, speaker, workshop facilitator, and crisis counselor.

Currently, Tamara's practice is primarily comprised of couples, individuals who are dating and/or getting over an ex, individuals wanting to live an authentic life based on who they are at their core, and pre-marital couples. She offers extensive workshops for couples in crisis and premarital counseling to give couples the tools needed to create emotionally safe, fulfilling, long-lasting relationships.

She supports the individuals within the couple relationship with growing and supporting one another's individual goals, while putting practices in place to feed the couple connection. She uses a positive and strength focused approach to get couples grounded and on the same team, while simultaneously supporting them with bringing passion (both individual and for one another) into their relationship.

Tamara believes that our shared humanity makes us one.

She believes in taking accountability for our actions and our healing.

She is now incorporating journals and workbooks to offer the tools that she uses with clients in her private practice and workshops, to anyone on a journey towards deeper self-love and emotional healing after a heartbreak. The journals and workbooks are not intended to be a replacement for therapy, they actually work well while in therapy, and can support anyone who is looking for guidance in a warm tone, with introspective questions, practical tools, and fun exercises.

She is a clinician who understands the importance of taking care of our mental health and well-being, and recognizes that incorporating mindfulness, gratitude, and somatic practices everyday can keep us present, grounded, less stressed, and create more joy-filled moments, regardless of what comes our way!
