Ronald Allen is an author of both fiction and nonfiction whose work bridges the sacred and the street-level realities of modern life. His nonfiction writings explore Mahāyāna Buddhism with a focus on Zen and the Tibetan lineages, offering fresh translations and reflections rooted in historical teachings and canonical scripture. With a deep interest in the evolution of Asian and Islander languages and their relationship to traditional Buddhist expression, his work often engages cross-cultural and cross-lineage dialogue.

His fiction includes poetry, short stories, and vignettes from American street life, especially between 1965 and 1985. His literary style draws on the traditions of Beat poetry and firsthand observation of social change, urban struggle, and spiritual resilience.

Ronald is a graduate of Oceanside High School and studied at La Jolla Center School and the San Francisco Art Institute on grants. He furthered his spiritual and intellectual pursuits through time spent at the San Francisco Zen Center, the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, and by receiving traditional empowerments from teachers of the Delong Pomo lineage and the Self-Realization Fellowship.
