YANNIS MAVRITSAKIS

Yannis Mavritsakis was born in Canada (Montreal) and grew up in Greece. His writing initially focused on theatre. All his plays have been performed in Athens (National Theatre, the Athens Festival, Epidaurus Festival), have been translated and published in several countries, and performed at international festivals (Avignon Festival). In recent years he has focused on novel writing.

In 2020, he was included in Routledge's volume, Contemporary European Playwrights (among Sarah Kane, Mark Ravenhill, Yasmina Reza, Peter Handke, Elfriede Jelinek, Lars Noren, Jon Fosse, Marius Von Mayenburg and others), a book that "presents and discusses a range of key writers that have radically reshaped European theatre by finding new ways to express the changing nature of the continent's society and culture, and whose work is still in dialogue with Europe today."
