Robert Joost Willink

Robert Joost Willink (1947) studied organ and piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory, then completed his studies in art history and musicology, and obtained his doctorate at Leiden University. He published several studies on nineteenth-century European travelers in Central Africa and the context of the ethnographic collections they brought with them (a.o. Stages in Civilisation, 2007), and about Alexine Tinne (the first female explorer to reach the upper part of the White Nile in 1862/63) and her Sudan-collections in the World Museum Liverpool (The Fateful Journey, 2011. With his book An Unfinished Life. Schubert’s Schmerzen and the shadow of Beethoven he returns to his roots in music.
