My brother and I, identical twins, grew up in the 1950s. Our family was close and had a large extended family on both sides. My father's parents passed away when he was very young, but my mom's family was always nearby and we visited often. If they said it was none of our business, we knew not to ask questions. Events in the families that happened before we were born turned out to be a mystery no matter which relative we asked. Their usual answer was "I don't remember!" or "It's none of your business."

Our parents grew up during the Depression and World War II. We ate our meals at the family table, mom made a lot of our clothes, and dad had a garden.

We always remembered that old trunk in Grandma's old kitchen. The very one that contained the contents were "none of our business". As we grew older, our curiosity grew. As we will find out later from the research for our book, our two families were connected twenty years before our parents joined together in marriage. Nobody knew that we could tell. If they knew something, it was none of our business.
