Professor Andy Buchanan is a structural engineer with many years of experience in the design of timber buildings, specialising in fire safety and earthquake engineering. He recently retired after 25 years as Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, now with PTL Structural Consultants in Christchurch. He has degrees from the University of Canterbury, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of British Columbia. He is a Distinguished Fellow of Engineering New Zealand.
