Paula White

Paula White is a British illustrator and author. She grew up and still lives by the sea on the Suffolk coast. She has worked as an artist and printmaker for many years and was also a lecturer in Visual Studies, teaching drawing and printmaking. In 2018 she graduated from the Children’s Book Illustration MA at the Cambridge School of Art with distinction.

Paula’s book ‘Bread, Buns and Biscuits’ was the overall winner of the Templar Illustration Prize in 2019 and was fittingly renamed ‘The Baker by the Sea’.

‘The Baker by the Sea’ was her debut picture book as an author & illustrator, published in May 2022 by Bonnier Books UK - Templar Publishing.

‘The Baker by the Sea’ has been longlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2022 in the Children’s Publishing category.

With such a strong interest the heritage of her hometown, Paula was specially commissioned to illustrate the cover and chapters for the freshly designed 2019 edition of ‘The Grit’ - The Story of Lowestoft’s Beach Village’.

Paula is passionate about drawing and uses pencil and ink to create atmosphere and evoke a sense of place and time. When she isn’t drawing, you will find her enjoying a brisk walk along the beach, perhaps thinking of her own family history which is steeped in sea-faring and fishy tales going back many years.
