Deborah Robbins-Giles

"You want to write about this caring business," Deborah Robbins-Giles’ father used to say to her when she was a full-time caregiver for him and her Auntie Rita. With The Dog Always Cooks, a book some 15 years in the making, she finally has.

Deborah was born in the Shropshire market town of Shifnal in 1961. An only child, she and her husband took her Aunt into her home to care for her as dementia set in. It became, as she puts it, “one hell of a ride”; one that was poignant but also filled with love and laughter. She latterly became a full-time caregiver for her elderly father too whilst also working for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The Dog Always Cooks is a must-read for anyone entering the world of caregiving, offering assistance on the difficult but ultimately rewarding journey that its author would take again in a heartbeat
