Melissa McDaniel

Melissa Shepherd McDaniel is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), life coach, author, and speaker with more than two decades of experience guiding individuals and families toward healing, accountability, and purpose.

She began her career working with survivors of sexual assault, walking closely with those reclaiming their voices after trauma. She later expanded her clinical work to include counseling individuals who have committed sexual offenses, helping facilitate meaningful behavior change rooted in responsibility and restoration. In her private practice at Shepherd Way Counseling, Melissa consistently works with clients navigating grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions.

Her passion for family systems led her to Family-Centered Services, where she worked extensively to help keep families intact. Recognizing the importance of balance and sustainability, she later founded her own private practice, where for over 20 years she has counseled and coached thousands, encouraging deeper self-awareness, spiritual integration, and lifelong growth.

Melissa is the author of the non-fiction memoir Loved Just As I Am, a courageous exploration of trauma, race, faith, and healing. She is also the author of the children’s book One Road Leads to Another: The Heartfelt Drive, a generational story about legacy, local history, and the power of family storytelling. Through her writing, she weaves together themes of faith, resilience, and identity—reminding readers that every road we travel shapes who we become.

Melissa has lectured and trained at mental health facilities, served as an expert witness, and conducted court-ordered evaluations. Known for her curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning, she believes meaningful transformation begins when we courageously examine our stories—and choose how we will carry them forward.
