Don Piatt Koch

Don Piatt Koch was born June 30. 1939 in Washington, DC. He grew up Philadelphia, Pennsylvania near the intersection of Lancaster and Powelton Avenues. In 1950 his family moved to Bellmawr, New Jersey about 8 miles from Philadelphia. He attended Haddon Heights Heights High School where he graduated in 1957. He immediately enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps where he served a three year enlistment where he was stationed at Iwakuni, Japan and six month tour with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. While in the /marines he began extensive use of cameras, though not as part of his service duties.

Following he's tour with the Marines, he became a casualty insurance Underwriter and later an underwriting manager. In 1968, he moved to Juneau, Alaska where he still resides.

In 1969 he was offered and accepted a position with the Alaska Division of Insurance as Chief of Market Surveillance, a position he held until his retirement 1n 1997. In his spare time, he worked part time as a commercial photographer.

In 1977, Don Married Mie Nagano of Tokyo, Japan and thay have three children and two grandchildren.

After his retirement in 1997 from Alaska Sate government in 1997, Don formed a consulting firm that offered consulting and examination services to state governments. Initial assignments were on behalf of the State of Delaware and that proved to be a mean commute. He retired from the consulting business in 2018.

Don has been an avid reader of science fiction since high school and had wanted to write in that genre for some time. His first novel was published in late 2015. Since that time he has written an additional nine science fiction novels, there nonfiction books that are partly autographical and one non fiction work with photographs about exploring the AJ Mine in Juneau.
