Gary D. Josephson MD, MBA received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany and his MD degree at SUNY Downstate Medical College with Distinction in Research. He completed an otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary where he was honored with the Resident Teaching Award and Turner Award for excellence in otolaryngology. During this time, he was the medical correspondent for a local newspaper in Manhattan with a readership of over 350,000. His column included health and wellness tips and facts to improve well-being. Dr. Josephson also completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the University of Virginia, as well as an MBA with highest honors from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Dr. Josephson has served in many leadership postions including was Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at a nationally recognized not-for-profit pediatric healthcare organization. He holds academic rank of Professor at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He has received many awards for his contributions to the medical profession and advocacy for children. Dr. Josephson has been named in “Jacksonville’s Best Surgeons in the City” and listed in “Castle Connelly” and “Best Doctors in America” year after year. In 2018, Dr. Josephson was selected for the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who. He is an active member of numerous societies and participates on many boards and committees nationally. Dr. Josephson has numerous peer-reviewed publications in the medical literature in addition to invited articles, book chapters, and a medical text he edited titled “Complications in Pediatric Otolaryngology.” He serves as a consultant for medical equipment companies and provides expertise on surgical innovation. He has developed several instruments currently used in surgical practice today. Even with many administrative responsibilities, Dr. Josephson remains actively engaged in research, education, and clinical care. He is often an invited guest lecturer nationally and internationally. He has enjoyed volunteering for international medical mission trips to care for adults and children with facial deformities. Dr. Josephson was honored by his undergraduate alma mater and was the commencement keynote speaker for the graduating class of the College of Biological Sciences. His address shared the seven principles and how they pave a road to success. On a more personal note, Dr. Josephson enjoys nature, outdoor activities, and staying physically fit. His greatest passion is spending time with his wife, Patricia, a Jacksonville pediatrician, and their two children, Samantha and Grayson. Dr. Josephson and his family currently reside in Jacksonville, Florida.
