Although now retired, the author’s background is that of an ex-serviceman who has spent time in the Army and Royal Marine Commandos. After leaving the military, he worked with ex-offenders and looked after children in the care of the local authority. He has a first degree in Applied Community Studies and a master’s degree in Criminology.
He has lectured in Law, Crime and Deviance at undergraduate level and on aspects of criminal law and deviance to prospective and serving police officers. His main area of academic work includes looking at the phenomenology of violence and homicide in the UK and how perpetrators seek—or don’t seek—to justify their actions.
