Ross Gordon was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to farming parents. He was schooled at Darwendale Primary (47 pupils) on the Great Dyke, then Marlborough and Churchill Senior schools in Harare. He grew up and farmed on the family farms in Zimbabwe before emigrating to Vanuatu in 2004. He is currently a commercial beekeeper in Tasmania, Australia. Ross is married to Carolyn whom he met at university in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. They have three adult daughters, all of whom live and work in Australia. Ross and Carolyn live in the beautiful Huon Valley of Tasmania on a small rural property. They have recently become pet-less as their beloved cat, Ruby, was killed by a tiger snake on the verandah of their home. The trauma of the incident was such that they are not ready for another pet just yet. Ross began writing Dancing on Bones when living alone on their cattle property in Vanuatu. It was an exercise born of abject loneliness, boredom, a new laptop computer, the desire to download his memories while they were still fresh and the encouragement of friends and family.
