Andrew C Crossley

Growing up in Melbourne, Andrew Crossley left Australia at 20, becoming an Austrian qualified ski instructor, which he worked as for several seasons. Later also becoming a qualified scuba diving instructor. He went on to work in the UK for a prestigious investment firm dealing with share market investors. In 1996, at the age of twenty-four, Andrew was headhunted and moved to The Netherlands to work for a private equity firm. For eight years he dealt with high net-worth clients, handling investments in venture capital projects, international property funds, IPOs and off-market derivatives.

Andrew went on to work for the company in Cayman Islands and Italy, before arriving back in Australia in 2005, Andrew experienced prejudice (as many ex-pats do) from most recruitment companies in Melbourne that he spoke to. One common theme emerged: his overseas qualifications and experience didn’t particularly count in Australia. Disappointing: yes; a deterrent to success: no!

Andrew began to look at Australian governmental policy and realised that longer-living Australians were destined to suffer, longer term, unless they seriously looked at how they could self-fund their living standards in retirement. He realised he had to have a plan.

Andrew set about finding a path to financial security through property

Andrew drew strength from completing three master’s Degrees — an MBA, a Master of Commerce, and Masters of Commercial Law. He obtained an advanced diploma in financial services (financial planning), diploma in finance (mortgage broking management) and a licensed estate agent (in Victoria, Qld and N.S.W.), became a qualified property advisor and is now undertaking a 2nd law degree. Establishing a buyer advocacy and property advisory business in 2012 and a mortgage broking business in 2021.

Andrew currently, has worked for a large non-bank lender since 2007, resigning his position in 2021 to add mortgage broking to his suite of services

Andrew is the founder of Australian Property Advisory Group (APAG), a buyer advocacy and property advisory business based in Melbourne. APAG’s buyer advocacy services specialise in working with investors and people looking for a place to live, from around Australia, to reduce risk, improve potential and take the time and stress out of each property purchase. This is achieved through thorough research leading to the shortlisting of ‘where to buy’, sourcing of investment grade properties (the ‘what to buy’ to rent easily and remain in demand) and negotiation, (APAG believes negotiating on a client’s behalf, can improve the chances of obtaining the property at a better price than what a client could do themselves, due to extensive negotiation and buying experience, often leading to a greater chance of the buyers advocacy service being cost neutral.

APAG offers tailor made solutions, tailored property investment plans, to help investors, based on their current situation and their future goals, grow a portfolio which is well balanced and affordable to maintain. Every person has a goal to retire comfortably and to have options available to them even prior to retirement, whether to do volunteer work, travel more, cut back working hours etc. A tailored plan can provide a more achievable outcome than just buying an investment property and hoping for the best or buying several properties without them being aligned to a client’s specific circumstances.

Andrew’s mortgage broking business under the banner of Select my Finance enables Andrew to assist clients in reviewing their existing mortgage endeavouring to achieve a better rate and providing finance solutions for all residential property needs.

APAG was a finalist in the Australian small business awards of 2016, was highly recommended in the Investor Choice awards of 2015 in the categories of Property Investment Advisor and Buyer’s Agent and was national runner up in the prestigious Readers’ Choice awards of 2015.
