Jim Spivey is a chaplain, pastor, and seminary professor. As a chaplain, he is founding co-director of the Marsh Center for Chaplain Studies. As a military chaplain, he has served at all unit levels, from battalion staff to US Army Assistant Chief of Chaplains; in combat in Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Desert Shield/Storm (1990-91); and as Deputy Director of the Pentagon Family Assistance Center in Washington, DC after 9-11. As a seminary professor, he taught 17 years at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, TX); was dean of its Houston campus 10 years; and was a founding Senior Fellow and Professor of Christian Heritage of B.H. Carroll Theological Institute 17 years. As pastor, he has served several churches in England and Texas, and since 2013 has been pastor of Gambrell Street Baptist Church (Fort Worth, TX). He earned his BA degree in political science from Auburn University, his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford. He is also a graduate of the US Army War College and the US Army Command and General Staff College.
