Darlene Bradvory

Darlene Bradvory, today's Black Renaissance Poetess and author, was born in the 1950s to second-generation post-slavery Black Americans of the Deep South. She found poetry to appreciate being Black in America, knowing love as a Black woman, and understanding her mental struggles accrued by life and her unaddressed bipolar condition. As her abuse of self and substances evolved, Ms. Bradvory found healing in writing. Her continued evolution of prose traverses a temporal expanse from the late 20th century into the early 21st century, inviting readers into her intimate journey as a woman grappling with her identity, ethnicity, gender, and the struggles associated with mental illness. These themes resonate throughout her experiences, highlighting the interplay of pain and resilience, alongside the complexities of love and honor of self, race, and relationships. She currently lives in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by children and grandchildren. Ms. Bradvory writes every day as "she has no choice".
