Robert Espenscheid Jr.

I'll start with the basics: a Connecticut yankee who has spent time in the courts of North Carolina (Wake Forest College, class of '66), NYC (suit and tie on Park Avenue), U.S. Army (RVN), southern Iowa (decades spent tuning and repairing pianos) and now small town central Texas (surviving the heat). At a point in time I sat down in 2010 to write a bucket-list short story that has led to four novels. No one is more surprised than me.

One word to describe my stories: redemption. Basically I put everyday Janes and Joes in extraordinary situations and watch them rise to the occasion. Time frame and location change but not courage and determination. I didn't set out to write so. Redemption was not a goal; the stories simply evolved... going from head and heart to pen and paper.

I've taken on "saving trees" in The Jackass Alliance, our civil war at the battle at Shiloh, corporate farming in Magic City, and now Vietnam and the aftermath in The Sentinel Papers. Four different paths. Four loves.

As I write this in December 2024, I've a new novel set for publication (Stoney Creek Publishing) early 2025: The Rise of the Mad March. Exciting time for me. March is centered about a pre-punk punk band in the early 70's. Not so much their career, but rather the forces in their lives that led to their formation and the trials/successes thereafter. I sort of wrote it for all the 1000's of local bands that never made the 'big' stage or the pages of Rolling Stone. Plenty of heartfelt humor. plenty of heartfelt drama.
