My degree in veterinary medicine came in very handy while writing Dr. Metifunger’s Transdimensional Veterinary Clinic, and though our clinic is admittedly lacking in transdimensional technology, I did work in Florida from 2000 to 2017, which arguably qualifies me to write about alternate realities. In fact, Florida is where the idea for the book first solidified—or maybe “congealed” is the better term—from a soup of quirky clients and migraine-inducing conversations into a sort of therapeutic fictional diary. For example, the clients in the book are all based on real individuals from my prior job. To be precise, most of the “client” characters in the book are amalgams of multiple clients with a little embellishment for good measure. Except for the cat licker. He’s one hundred percent non-fiction. I guess some things just write themselves.

Let’s see. What else can I tell you about myself . . .

I have four brilliant and talented daughters: Sarah, Hayley, Alyssa and Skylar.

I have a weird aversion to the Oxford comma, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Not sure why.

Love my job, as I already mentioned, but what I love even more is spending my evenings and weekends with my wife, Gena (also brilliant and talented), and my three golden retrievers: Indy, Thor and Gandalf (all named after iconic move characters, obviously).

Oh, and we’re currently building an in-ground pool for the dogs.

Come to think of it, that last sentence tells you everything you need to know about me, doesn’t it? So maybe just ignore the rest and focus on that.

We’re.

Building.

An in-ground pool.

For the dogs.

The end.
