Tim Luckhurst

Tim Luckhurst is Principal of South College and Associate Pro Vice Chancellor Engagement at Durham University. He is an academic member of the University's Centre for Modern Conflicts and Cultures. Tim is a newspaper historian and member of the editorial board of The Conversation UK. Between 2007 and 2019 he was Professor of Journalism and Head of the Centre for Journalism at the University of Kent. He is a former Editor of the Scotsman, Scotland's national newspaper and a former producer, reporter and editor for BBC news and current affairs. He began his career on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme where her worked as a Duty Editor before serving as the BBC's Radio Producer in Washington DC. He joined BBC Radio Five Live at launch in 1994 as an Assistant Editor. He was Editor of Radio and Television News Programmes at BBC Scotland between 1995 and 1997. Tim joined The Scotsman as Assistant Editor in 1997. He was promoted to the role of Deputy Editor in 1998 and Editor in 2000. Tim covered the Romanian Revolution of 1989 and the First Gulf War for the BBC and reported the Zajedno protests in Serbia and the liberation of Kosovo for The Scotsman.
