Born and raised in Greenwich Village, NYC, educated at private progressive schools and then at Ivy League universities, I moved to Israel with my wife and our first child in 1973 and eventually became a leading translator from Hebrew to English. I had the signal honor of translating a dozen or more books by the late Aharon Appelfeld, one of the most important Hebrew writers of the past fifty years. I have also translated important academic books, which were published by major university presses, and I play baritone saxophone in a quartet.
