Dyondzo Kwinika

Dyondzo Kwinika is a South African writer whose work follows the textures of memory, silence, and everyday life.

In September 2025, his story Mr Duiker Sang the Blues received the inaugural DALRO Can Themba Award. It appears in When Water Wants To: The DALRO Can Themba Merit Award Short Story Anthology, edited by Neil Coppen and published by Wits University Press. The story is being adapted for the stage at the Market Theatre.

Kwinika is the creator of Fragments of the Underground and Head of Writing at the Moving Spirits Book Club. His work draws from South African histories and the thought of Robert Sobukwe, Steve Biko, Frantz Fanon, Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Winnie Mandela, Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, and Teboho Mashinini.

He is the author of The Memoir About Nothing. He studied law and politics at the University of Johannesburg and lives in Johannesburg.
