Joel Berman

Dr. Joel Berman is a practicing surgeon and a versatile author with works spanning fiction, plays, historical novels, biographies, medical books, and an extensive collection of short stories. One of his books is currently under consideration for a TV series, and another may become a full-length film. Although he initially pursued Theatre Arts, English, and American Literature in college, Joel came from a family in the medical field, and with encouragement from his father—a professor of surgery—he ultimately chose a path in medicine. After a brief foray into writing during a summer in Europe, Joel returned to medical school, where he fell in love with surgery.

Joel’s career in surgery has not only provided him with a fulfilling livelihood but also allowed him the time to pursue his writing passions, producing a diverse range of books. His published works include a biography of a Dutch WWII survivor, a love letter compilation from his father during WWII, and a novel told from the perspective of a 4,000-year-old tree. Other works explore subjects like a WWII codebreaker, a 19th-century surgeon who crosses paths with Jack the Ripper, and humorous medical poetry, along with medical books on breast cancer and surgery. Joel also regularly shares new short stories on his website, offering readers glimpses into his ever-expanding literary world.
