I love writing, but I get distracted by kayaking, star gazing, and snowshoeing. In keeping with my Scottish heritage, I'm a kilt maker. I proudly wear McPherson tartan at science fiction and fantasy conventions, and mystery conventions.

My latest novel Averted Vision is a murder mystery set in Minnesota. What could be spookier than a body churned up from the depths of a deep, cold lake!

My YA (okay for adults, too) fantasy Blade of Mad Vision has high-tech fencing pitched against ancient swordplay.

My adult fantasy Monarch of Lightning takes place on a planet that hides a heavy secret and is threatened by clan wars.

I started out as a short story writer. I gathered some of my "shorties" together in Roar at the Universe. A second collection, Through the Wall, will be out soon. Individually my stories have appeared in The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror, Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, Amazing Stories, Revolution SF, and other places.
