Donald Ostrowski

Don Ostrowski is a lecturer at the Harvard Extension School, where he has taught courses in history and methodology for 40 years. His publications include MUSCOVY AND THE MONGOLS: CROSS-CULTURAL INFLUENCES ON THE STEPPE FRONTIER, 1304-1589 (Cambridge University Press, 1998); THE POVEST′ VREMENNYKH LET: AN INTERLINEAR COLLATION AND PARADOSIS (Harvard University Press, 2003); EUROPE, BYZANTIUM AND THE “INTELLECTUAL SILENCE” OF RUS′ CULTURE (ARC Humanities, 2018), WHO WROTE THAT? AUTHORSHIP CONTROVERSIES FROM MOSES TO SHOLOKHOV (Cornell University Press, 2020); and RUSSIA IN THE EARLY MODERN WORLD: THE CONTINUITY OF CHANGE (Lexington Books, 2022). Most recently, he has co-authored with Christian Raffensperger, RULING FAMILIES OF RUS: CLAN, FAMILY AND KINGDOM (Reaktion Books, 2023). He lives in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, with his wife Wren and their dog Sophie Parker. He serves on the Fitchburg Historical Commission and is a member of the Wachusett Chess Club.
