I don't consider myself a writer, I am a storyteller. I came from simple roots, the dryland prairie of South Dakota. There was no television or modern-day conveniences, but I loved every minute of my childhood. It was a special time that will never be experienced again. I remember the Saturday night dances that everyone went to and swimming in the dam on hot summer days. I remember having fried chicken on Sunday with whipped cream and apples for dessert. I remember sleeping five to a bed and using the two-hole outhouse or a chamber pot during those below zero nights when the wind howled, and nothing moved. Stories were very important. It signified a connection to the community and the absolute best way to keep the stories going was through the party-line phone system. I went through everything a human being goes through. I spent my rebellious teen years being a true PITA (pain in the a--), marrying the absolute wrong person the first time and raising some pretty amazing kids. I am now in my "twilight" years but I won't just sit back and let the world go by. I remember and I will always treasure those memories. I wanted to share them with you, good or bad when they are shared, they live on. Hugs!
