Dr. Jamila Pamoja-Thomas is influenced by Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, and
her own mother’s writing. Dr. Jamila Pamoja-Thomas began writing stimulating poems at thirteen. She
dreamt of being a famous poet as a child, as poetry was what led her to her love of writing.
Ostracized by the one she loved positioned her on a path of heartache, pushing her to return to evolve,
through her journey poetically. Pamoja-Thomas; struggles and experiences evoked her interest to craft a
poetic memoir.
