Lee Rather

Dr. Rather received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and entered the mental health field with a background interest in the arts and in the creative processes of deepening self-awareness. He earned a Doctorate in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Berkeley, acquiring clinical training and experience at Kaiser Hospital, Children’s Hospital of San Francisco, and numerous community-based clinics in the Bay Area.

Dr. Rather has been the Director of Training for several programs including Northeast and Westside Lodges (California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco), Community Counseling and Education Center (South Bay) and Juvenile Hall Psychological Services (Marin).

He pursued advanced analytic training at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC) and was certified as a Psychoanalyst in 1998 and as a Personal and Supervising Analyst in 2003. He is currently a faculty member at PINC and the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis.

Dr. Rather is well known in the professional community for his extensive experience teaching and supervising licensed therapists as well as doctoral interns in a variety of academic programs, institutional settings, and private study groups. He has published in professional journals and frequently presents papers and workshops for clinicians.
