Andrew Brooks

Andrew is a Chef, Nutritionist, and Diabetes Coach. He started a company called Spirited Food Co. in 2001 and sold it in 2021. Along the way, he married Elizabeth and they had a little girl in 2012 named Lila. When Lila was 8, she asked Andrew to write her a fairy tale and that is how the story of Figerly Bunny came to be.

Andrew published this first book in 2022 and is already working on his second book for kids.

Growing up, Andrew remembers lots of Dr. Seuss stories. He always had Dr. Seuss books around, and cites them as inspiration to write children's books. As an adult, he collects vintage Dr. Seuss books. Years ago when the Lorax movie came out and Andrew was full time as a Chef, the art gallery Art on 5th called and said that they were hosting the movie release party along with an expanded Dr. Seuss exhibit and they needed food for the event. He jumped at the chance and created a Dr. Seuss inspired heavy apps menu including, of course, green eggs and ham (they were only about 1/2" each). When the event began, all the kids stormed the food table and ate everything within 20 minutes. They were all shouting "I'M EATING GREEN EGGS AND HAM!!!". During the event, Andrew got to meet an executive from the Dr. Seuss foundation who talked about Dr. Seuss as a person and the amazing decisions he made during his lifetime that illustrated his character.

Studying the Dr. Seuss stories as an adult made Andrew look for the infusion of Dr. Seuss' character in his books and sure enough, there were poignant life lessons throughout the stories. In considering Figerly Bunny, and any future works, Andrew thought it was important to include lessons and values in the stories, as these can serve as a foundation for building good humans. And the world needs as many of those as possible...
