Stephen Michael Cohen has been interested in science and doing art since childhood, starting with the standard kiddie projects of science fairs and flip-books of stick figures diving down the side of his school workbooks. He pursued both throughout college and graduate degrees, which not all his professors and fellow students always appreciated. He has a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in chemistry, while becoming Art Editor for the "Pennsylvania Punch Bowl," his college humor magazine, as well as drawing a daily comic strip for the "Daily Pennsylvanian" student newspaper. He was a runner-up in the Union for Concerned Scientists' Editorial Cartoon contest in 2007. When pretending to be serious, he also published peer-reviewed articles on chemical research, history of chemistry, and a variety of other topics, showing that he never was able to focus on one subject long enough to become an expert. To prove the point, he also is a technical writer, professional calligrapher, and has published a couple of choral arrangements. He'll skip all the professional societies he belongs to, because no one cares.
