Steven H. VanderLeest

Steven H. VanderLeest is a practicing computer engineer who writes about engineering, software, technology, and Christian faith. As a lifelong Christian and engineer, one of Steve’s life goals is to help technical professions think about their career and their faith holistically by illuminating the deep connections that technology design has to many biblical principles.

Steve holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and was formerly a Professor of Engineering at Calvin University. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has published on avionics safety and security in the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, the IEEE/AIAA Digital Avionics Systems Conference, and SAE Aerotech. He has served as principal investigator for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts with the US Navy, Army, and DARPA. Steve co-authored a paper for the 2021 Digital Avionics Systems Conference that one the “Best of Conference award”. He currently chairs the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) EA Airworthiness committee.
