In the beginning:
I grew up in conservative and Christian southern Indiana in a family of seven. My dad who was very successful at running the jewelry store that he started, recognized when I was very young that I had a technical mind and he started programming me with the desire to attend engineering school. When I was about to graduate from high school, I applied to one college, Purdue's engineering school, and was accepted.
My dad, a recreational pilot, flew me to school in the flying club's Cessna 172, a week before classes started so I could attend the 1 week marching band camp (tenor saxophone). That was the first time I had ever seen Purdue.
Fast forward 4 years:
I received a BSEE degree, which was one of the happiest days of my life, and started work at Magnavox as a junior engineer. My income went from $0 to $900 per month over night. I had arrived and had realized my dad's dream for me to become a Purdue engineer.
Fast forward 43 years:
I married my college sweetheart, Mary Kay, we raised three sons, and I worked for 43 years as an engineer in the automotive electronics design field. My work took me all over the world and enabled me to lead teams of engineers to design and put into production, most of the electronic boxes that are in a car. God is good.
Fast forward to the current time:
We have three sons, two engineers and one computer graphics expert, who are all married and have provided us with eight grandchildren. One son and his family live close and the other two and their families live in two other states. We love spending time with all of them, watching their sports and music activities.
Lately, I am writing books, working on medical instrument development in my home lab, and maintaining our home and yard in beautiful North Carolina. We often remark that the city we live in looks like a park with all the flowering trees and bushes.
We especially enjoy creating pretty flower gardens around our home and also growing herbs, vegetables, and strawberries, etc. Mary Kay has an incredible green thumb. This year, we will add a victory garden and freeze or can vegetables to lessen our dependence on the grocery store, and provide homegrown and higher quality produce!
Another joy of our lives is our dog, Hendrix, a big lovable Labrador Retriever! We take lots of walks and play ball in the yard with him. We three love traveling...especially to the beach or the mountains! We often take Sunday drives to nearby sites like Pilot Mountain, Hanging Rock State Park, or Blue Ridge Parkway with its breathtaking mountain vistas.
Mary Kay and I fellowship and worship the Lord Jesus Christ at an awesome local church! Thank you, Lord for keeping us healthy, alert, and strong!!
