"The last time I made up a bedtime story for my grandsons, we ended up howling with laughter, instead of nodding-off to sleep! The same thing can easily happen, when washing hands and brushing teeth. It has been known for me to make up lines to encourage this cleaning process; but instead of progressing and achieving clean teeth, we could end up giggling on the landing, making us late for the school run. Laughter is so refreshing, any moment of the day - don't you think?
I began writing from around the age of 7 years. It became to be something I really enjoyed doing - my own, special, timeless place. Together with my love of drawing and painting; I kept myself happily occupied over the years. I learned much later, that my father wrote poetry and did pencil drawings.
Most of my adult life, I have been a song-writer and musician. 'The Day of Delight' is my first book. It had been in the making for some years. Writing in rhyme with a rhythmic- pattern, is what song-writing is about, this is why I automatically wrote poetry for my first children's book. Well, initially, The Day of Delight began as a childrens book; but over the years, I realised that the new poems could appeal to any age group; this pleased me very much.
By the way, this is EDITION 2 of THE DAY OF DELIGHT on Amazon. It has more poems, more artwork and we have re-looked at the graphics and updated the cover. I hope you like the changes. With these changes, I would also add that I am using my professional, music name as the author. I thought this best, so that anyone interested in my music, would also connect to my book.
So, just a bit about me - I was born in Balham, South London and we moved to Battersea (also in South London) in the early 1950s. Climbing trees on Clapham Common and swimming for hours at the Latchmere Swimming Baths with my sister and our friends, were my fun times. Sometimes we walked as far as Wandsworth Common and went fishing or just strolled and laughed in the sunshine. My childhood days were mainly outdoors - most times getting dirt on my dresses and grazing my knees!
Bringing home all kinds of insects and other things such as, lizards, mice, rats, fish, baby birds in need of rescue and even a chicken, was something I just did! I had rows of jars at the top of the stairs, with creepies in them. I had a nature table in my bedroom, for my collection of fallen leaves, conkers and acorns. I'm not sure if my parents ever appreciated the jam-jars on the landing, with the creepy-crawlies! My love of nature still does influence my work, very much indeed.
I love the writing process - catching words, ideas, and jotting them down. Then later, I gather and amalgamate the 'catch of words' from my note books, or from odd pieces of paper I've written on - moving on to when I am in my timeless- special -zone and I begin to type". My happy place! I hope the pages bring a smile to your face and memories of your walks in nature.
