I was born an artist like everyone else on our planet. As children we draw and draw with whatever tool we have: a pencil, crayon, chalk, a stick in the dirt or a finger on a misty window. And then we grow up and find other things to do. But, I never grew up.

I got sidetracked working in construction, at a steel mill, as a sculptor, as a realtor and in a bank. I have a degree in accounting, not in art. I taught myself to paint and sculpt. But, I had one amazing drawing lesson when I was 4 or 5 - my father showed me how to draw a cowboy hat. That lesson is on the dedication page of my book

Davy Dinosaur Cowboy Lost a Button But Catches a Whale!

In my sidetracked years, I always carried a small sketchbook in my pocket to sketch out ideas I had for paintings, sculptures or children’s books. Pig Kids Big Box was born on a slow day in a real estate office. I now have a drawer full of my idea books. Now that I have been retired for several years, I hope to bring a few ideas to life. Time to get to work. Thanks for reading! David
