Brian T. Yates, Ph.D. is a tenured Professor at American University, Washington DC. He received his BA in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 1972. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Stanford University in 1976. Most of Dr. Yates' publications and research apply cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, or cost-utility analysis to formative evaluation of human services, such as youth mentoring and parenting training initiatives, prevention and treatment of substance abuse, computer-based cognitive-behavioral therapy for alcohol abuse, suicide prevention, and treatments for obesity, depression, and seasonal affective disorder. Dr. Yates teaches online courses in self-management, personality theories, and health psychology, having also developed and taught courses in community psychology, behavioral medicine, advanced theories of personality, research methods, and program evaluation.
