Jeffrey Moore

Jeffrey Moore, PE, FSFPE, CFEI, is a practicing fire protection engineer in Union, Kentucky, with over forty years of experience in fire protection engineering and industrial fire protection. He holds a degree in engineering from the Ohio State University. He is a licensed fire protection engineer in multiple states, was selected as a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (FSFPE), and is a National Association of Fire Investigators Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI).

He started his fire protection engineering career with Industrial Risk Insurers (IRI) as a Field Engineer, District Supervising Engineer, and Senior Loss Prevention Training Consultant. At IRI, he developed a fire protection engineering training and certification program for IRI field engineers and taught fire protection and industrial loss control programs for clients throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, England, and Ireland

He later served as the fire protection engineer for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH, where he designed all types of fire protection and life safety systems and served as a general fire protection engineering consultant for other organizations on a U.S. Air Force base with over 30,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel.

From 2001 to 2019, he was a member of the engineering staff of Hughes Associates, Inc. (now Jensen Hughes), a specialty fire protection engineering firm. As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer and Director, he provided fire protection engineering services to industrial, commercial, government, and military clients.

He has been involved in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code-making process for more than twenty-five years serving as a member of the NFPA Technical Committee on Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems for fifteen years, eleven as Committee Chair. He also served as the Chair of the NFPA Technical Committee on Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems for nine years, and served terms on the NFPA technical committees for Foam-Water Sprinkler Systems, Portable Fire Extinguishers, and a Code Making Panel for the National Electrical Code.

He was an active firefighter/EMT for over 20 years for the Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Springdale, Ohio, Fire Departments. He served as a fire instructor, EMS instructor, and fire department training officer. He has taught fire protection courses at the OSHA Training Institute and the Air Force Institute of Technology. For more than thirty years he has been instructing training programs for NFPA, including the NFPA seminars on fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, fire protection systems plan review, and facility fire safety. He has also taught the SFPE’s Advanced Fire Alarm System Design Seminar and has been a frequent speaker and presenter at various fire protection and fire safety conferences.
