Julia Hans PhD

Julia Hans received her doctorate in American Literature from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011, where she specialized in women’s satire of the Progressive era. Dr. Hans has published peer-reviewed articles on topics such as American literary satire, vaudeville, the short stories of Dorothy Parker, and digital literacy in the composition classroom. In 2020, she was a contributing editor to Critical Insights: Satire, published by Salem Press. Her latest book, Hidden History of Pinehurst, will be released on April 8, 2024, by The History Press. In addition, she has published numerous newspaper articles and blogs, which are listed on LinkedIn.

A national award-winning essayist, Hans has received awards for her research including the 2011 College of Fine Arts and Humanities Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship (UMASS Amherst); the 2010 grant from Northeast MLA to conduct archival research at the John Hay Library, Brown University; and the 2009 Graduate Student Award for Outstanding New Research from the International Society for Humor Studies. She received the 1999 F. W. Kimball Grant to study Journalism at Harvard Summer School. ​

In her spare time, Dr. Hans enjoys biking, boating, hiking, being with her family, and watching funny cat videos online.
