Mario Roy is an associate professor of mathematics at Glendon College, York University's bilingual faculty, in Toronto, Canada. His main research area is dynamical systems and ergodic theory, with a keen interest in thermodynamic formalism and symbolic dynamics. After completing a bachelor's degree in physics and a master's degree in mathematics at Laval University (Quebec City), Mario started out a PhD in mathematics at the University of Warwick (England), which he completed at the University of Goettingen (Germany). He speaks four languages: French (mother tongue), English (fluently), German (intermediate level), and Spanish (beginner level). His hobbies include chess, tennis, history, and literature (reading great French and British authors (Dumas, Hugo, Dickens, Wilde, etc.)).
