John Kyle Hall

John Kyle Hall is the author of the recently published work of historical fiction, Rare Encounter | A War Novel (“Impressive and thoughtful….An astute war novel”—KIRKUS). It is a family saga and gripping struggle of two uncompromising soldiers inside the Second World War's greatest battle. Rare Encounter is based on a true story and a renowned scholar’s effort to give it resonance during the Vietnam War.

Hall, a Vietnam-Era veteran, is a former newspaper journalist and winner of the National Newspaper Freedom of Information Award. He also was director of arts communications at The University of Iowa, Dartmouth College, and Walker Art Center. He grew up in Texas, Missouri, and Iowa. He now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
