I am Honorary Professor at the UCL Bartlett Development Planning Unit supporting interdisciplinary postgraduate and doctoral teaching and research on health in urban planning and development for architects and planners. Until 2012 I was Reader of Ecology and Global Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) working at LSHTM from 1992. I continue leading LSHTM post-graduate teaching as a Module Organiser of LSHTM international in-house and distance learning MSc modules, including leading the LSHTM Globalisation and Health DL and intensive elective modules, and LSHTM's core module on Health Policy, Power and Process. From 2009 to 2017 I was Visiting Full Professor of Ecology and Global Health of the National University of Tucumán (UNT) in Argentina working with indigenous communities across Latin America. I am a Fellow (by distinction) of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and International Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

In 2007 I was awarded the Royal Society Kohn Award for Excellence in Engagement of the Public in Science, and the Mayor of London Academic Excellence Award in public engagement - both awards were for my voluntary work with over 300 disadvantaged young people in London, supporting them to engage in science and advance to university.

I am author of over 400 international publications. Most recently, I was lead editor and author of the OUP 2022 book Globalization and Health: Critical Issues and Policy.

I am on the board of six interdisciplinary international peer-reviewed journals. Environment and Urbanisation: Environmental Research Letters; International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health; Environmental Research, Open Urban Studies, and Environmental Development. I was on the founding editorial board of three of these journals and particularly support on-line and open access publishing.
