Dennis Welton

Dennis Welton has held many titles throughout his adventurous life. He spent his formative years on a ranch in rural West Texas, where his school teacher grandmother instilled a love of reading, books, art, and music. Upon graduating from high school, he entered the United States Marine Corps, where he quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant. Upon leaving military service, he worked as a technical advisor in Latin America for several years. Later, he worked as a roughneck on drilling rigs, a mechanic, a millwright, a pipeline inspector, and a heavy equipment operator, before returning to school at night while building custom cabinets to support his wife and family. Upon certification as an industrial designer specializing in piping design, he was immediately hired by a major oil company in Alaska, where he spent 14 years before moving back to Texas and taking a position as head of a small independent oil producer based in West Texas. After retiring, he formed his own consulting practice, which he is still active in. He has also become a certified Master Life Coach after a life altering experience while walking the Camino de Santiago across Spain.

Over the years, he has lived and worked in many places, including Mexico, Japan, Alaska, Idaho, and of course, Texas. He loves to travel, and he and his granddaughter hiked over 550 miles to complete the old pilgrimage trail across Spain known as the Camino de Santiago. He has since returned multiple times and has walked other Camino routes in Spain and Portugal. He is an avid hiker and has backpacked along the Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, as well as many smaller trails. He is also a small-boat sailor and sailed Prince William Sound when he lived in Alaska, as well as the Texas 200 run along the Texas coast. He has always loved writing and the storytelling process and can now add the title of author to his list of achievements. He currently lives on a ranch in West Texas with his wife Joyce, along with four rescue horses, two rescue donkeys, dogs and chickens. He calls the ranch his base of operations and has plans for future adventures, including another walking trip across Spain.

Welton loves to weave facts, traditions, history, and practical survival and prepping information into his writing. He believes in the tradition of teaching through storytelling, practiced for as long as man has had the spoken word. He strives to touch both the heart and the mind with his stories.
