Rhiannon Batten

Award-winning journalist Rhiannon Batten has been writing about travel, food, design and the outdoors for over two decades. Passionate about community tourism and slow travel, she takes a similar approach to food and design, drawn to stories about home cooks, heritage and hidden curiosities. An eight-year stint as travel editor of UK food magazine, Olive, deepened her interest in the cultures and customs that surround what we eat. She is also a regular contributor to the design pages of Homes & Antiques magazine and writes a travel column for The Idler magazine.

After a nomadic childhood Rhiannon studied archaeology and anthropology at Oxford University before joining the travel desk of the Independent, where she wrote stories about offbeat destinations, wild places and heartfelt hospitality. She then spent a decade in Scotland, where she worked as a freelance features writer for publications including the Guardian, ELLE magazine, National Geographic Traveller and the Sunday Times. Now firmly rooted in Somerset, Rhiannon lives with her family in a wonky old house where she is learning to grow equally wonky veg. A life-long walker, she is happiest in a pair of hiking boots, on a trail that ends at a good place to eat. You can find links to some of her recent writing on Twitter and Instagram @rhiannonbatten.
