James F. David

I lot of life has passed since I first wrote my bio for this page (see below). I continue to write and publish books, now independently. Sometimes I find myself thinking that this will be the last book I write, but then some story idea will pop up and I can't help but start writing again.

Because of my psychology background, I was asked once about what to tell people about how to handle our stressful times. I gave a more thoughtful answer, but my first thought was to read a book. It's the best way to take a vacation from what is causing you stress. Some meditate to do this, but I am not wired for it, so I take journeys through books. It's called escapism for a reason. The real world will always be there when you get back.

Bio:

I have been a lifelong storyteller, in the good sense, and eventually began to write them down.

In third grade, Mrs. Boyce would read books to the class after lunch. One day she read Spaceship Under The Apple Tree by Louis Slobodkin. It was my first exposure to science fiction and I loved it. While I read in many genres, Sci Fi was my favorite.

My career path meant that I essentially never left school. I went from college to graduate school to teaching at a university. As a professor of psychology, I used my gift for telling stories in my classes to get concepts across, although students often remembered the story, but not the underlying psychological principle.

My first novel was Footprints of Thunder and about dinosaurs returning to our present. I was writing it when Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park was published. I was devastated, thinking that people would think I was ripping-off his novel. After resisting the urge to dump my nearly finished manuscript, I pressed on and Tor published my novel. To this day I have never read Jurassic Park, so no, I stole nothing from Crichton. Ironically, some reviewers have compared my novels to his.

Dinosaurs, time travel, murder mysteries, mind melding, Christians in space, and even a little bit of alien invasion. I write the kind of books that I like to read; fast paced, fun, adventures.
